» » 3 Advices from real travelers in Chiang Mai - Thailand

1/ Elephant Camps Chiang Mai
The following information is offered for visitors on some of the numerous Elephant Camps and their credentials, in and around the Chiang Mai region.

If you want to experience elephants who are treated well and cared for, then this is the place. Our guide, Jenny, knew so much about the elephants' past, and was genuinely passionate about their welfare, as were all of the staff I met there, who were also very friendly. Money and time very well spent, I have recommended Ran-Tong to everyone I have met since!

2/ Weather & When to Go

In theory there are 3 seasons in northern Thailand:
  • the cool season from November to February
  • the hot season from March to June
  • the raining season (some want to call it the green season... more marketable) from July to October
In practice: El Nino is a bad boy, his sister El nina is no better, they're messing up withthe weather... well they have an excuse, humans feed them with carbon dyoxide, but still, it is becoming difficult to predict the weather. This year it's been raining in December and during a big part of May.
So you'll understand that the following is not 100% waterproof.
Usually the seasons change quite abruptly at some time during the transition months, October/November, February/March, June/July.  The landscapes and nature can look quite different, and this might be an important factor for some travellers.
3/ Thai Cooking Courses
There are quite a few well regarded Thai cooking classes available in Chiang Mai - these are just a few.

Most day classes are about 4-6 hours in length, running from 9am to 4pm and cost 800฿ - 1,800฿. They will normally include collection from your accommodation and a trip to the market where ingredients are explained and purchased. Most if not all cooking classes are family (child) friendly. If you are interested in taking Thai cooking classes when you visit Chiang Mai, check out some of these:
- Air's Thai Culinary Kitchen
- Asia Scenic Thai Cooking School
- Baan Thai Cookery School
In the end, It depends on your personality and time frame I spose!! CM is VERY easy to navigate, drivers are VERY easy to find and if you're flexible, there is ALWYS the chance of some hidden gem you had no knowledge of that presents itself to you.
